And you thought Irish politicians inept.

It looks like conservative politicians in Costa Rica have accidentally voted in gay marriage/unions in Costa Rica.

The bill in question included wording to make the right to marry gender neutral.

Evidently some politicians were too lazy to read the bill and just voted in favour without giving any thought to the matter, only to discover later what it actually did.

Now they feel "tricked" by their own laziness and are calling foul. Fair play to the President, she said she'll sign it into law.

Great result for Costa Ricans but it does make you question the competency of their law makers when the can accidentally vote something in.

Makes you wonder how many of our own crowd just vote on issues without having an iota what they are about.

I guess it speaks to the intelligence and ability to analyse information of your average Costa Rican homophobe!

...surely if the majority have unintentionally voted in this way, they can just change it back again?

At least they get the right result, while seemingly not wanting to do so.

Ours seemingly wants to do the right thing but just makes a bollix of it!

A lot of our crowd can't even be bothered to turn up and vote on issues.

What did they think they were voting on? It says the wording meant marriage would be defined as gender neutral. What else did they think it meant or are they saying they didn't read any of it and just ticked a yes box willy nilly?

I think they just didn't bother to read it.

It was a law about the rights of young people. They probably just thought it was something to do right twitter

Serves them right-presuming that Costa Rica is another one of countries full of fanatically-religious bigots.

    Marriage is marriage-gay or straight.
    And everybody should be allowed.

In fairness, our government are quite tame when it comes to politics. Imagine this going on in the Daíl
