    Hi there

I am interested in doing the Inca Trail with 2 other people - have never been to SOuth America before - and would like some info on the best way to go about organising this maybe for sometime in Sep or November - would be looking to spend about 7 to 8 days there and then come home, I know I can book with tour companies like peru trek for the actual 4 day walk to Machu Pichu - but just wondering about flights - Aer Lingus dont fly direct to Lima - can you someone give me advise about best way to go about this - should I go through a travel agency to organise the flights etc. sorry am not an experienced traveller at all - only used to short Ryanair flight to European destinations - and have not travelled in a long time - any advice/ tips would be appreciated

I flew from Lima to Dublin in April using Air france-KLM. From Lima into Amsterdam then onto Dublin. I booked through USIT but you can do it independently.

I used LAN for internal flights in Peru. You'll need an internal flight to get from Lima to Cusco. If you book your trek with a tour company, you can get a package including this flight.

Tough enpugh place to get to actually from Ireland or the UK
You could try Ireland to Amsterdam, KLM fly direct.
I have also got there using Ireland - LHR - Miami - Lima.
And I beleive you can go Ireland - Madrid - Lima

    Check skyscanner for possible routes

We flew Dublin-Madrid-Lima with Iberia (Lan Peru)...
be aware that the Inca trail is 4 days long and due to the high altitude you would need to be in the mountains for 3/4 days before hand to make it enjoyable...you really do struggle for air at the beginning when you walk uphill or quickly. We booked through Gap adventures (now G )who outsourced it to locals...the permits sell out quickly so look up the dtaes your interested in now to see if the permits are still available (must be bought in Cuzco buy your tour organiser...our was bought in Feb for an August Trail.

    Hi there
is LAN Peru part of Iberia Airlines or did you fly with Iberia to Peru and then with LAN peru to Cuzco
checked flights for 3 adults from Dublin to Peru on Iberia.com in September - (random dates) and it came to 4,091 euro!!
Is GAP adventures similar to peru-trek.com there are a lot of different companies that do this right?

Also what is the best time of year to travel to Machu Pichu or does it matter and lastly would I be better getting a travel agency to organise it all on my behalf - sorry for all the questions and I appreciate the help

Lan Peru and Iberia are different airlines but they 'share' flights...we booked with Iberia but the flight was operated by Lan Peru on the outward leg and Iberia on the home leg (Lan Peru were far superior in every way on that holiday anyway). Inside Peru most flights were operated by Lan Peru. I dont know about Peru Trek but yeah probably similar..I can pnly recommend G as I want with them and they were excellent. The trail closes in Feb so any other month is Ok but our guide said the rainy season (as it is) is a misearble time to do the trek as the stones get very slippy and people fall a lot...besides the misery of the rain...we went in Aug which is technicall their wonter but the weather was fab...about 20 deg during the day..got dark at 6 and dropped to -10 or so so you need clothes for warm and cold...layers are your friend !!!

Kayak.com is usually the best for these type of trips. They'll compare the airline sites and show you the cheapest.
