Hi, as the title says I'm looking to run my first 10k.
I've signed up for a race at the end of August, but i have never done more than 2/3k continuous before now.

Am I being too optimistic to think I can run/jog 10k continuous in 8 weeks ?

Are there any training plans that I could follow ?

Voila, Ask and you shall receive

My advice would be to slow your run right down to the point where you will be able to sustain it for the length of the run. If you have to take the odd break so be it but you should aim to slow it down until you get to a pace which you are able to hold a conversation with someone without being out of breath. Keep things nice and easy and the plan should be manageable. Eight week is a short enough time but it is doable

Slowing down my training runs, especially my longer weekend run was the best piece of advice I received before completing my first 10k in May.

The Hal Higdon plan mentioned above is perfect. Eat well, sleep well and rest well.

Went for a light jog at the weekend, I think the Hal Higdon plan is for someone who can run a bit more than I currently can :(

Is there a couch to 10k program anywhere that can be compressed into 8 weeks ?
My general fitness levels have improved in the last few months, with conditioning work, but I was never really much of a runner.

I'm new to this running world myself, and I started with the couch to 10k app. Did the first 6 weeks ok, but then found that I felt I could do more than what the app was telling me to do. Ran 8.2k in week 8, and 10k in week 9. Being honest with you, I probably pushed myself a bit, and was fairly tired at the end of the run, but I did it away at my own pace. Do what you feel comfortable doing, your fitness will come along all the time
