R.S. Autos have ceased trading as far as I know. The owner, Mike Sheehan, may be operating elsewhere. If you go out the Ennis Rd. to the Clondrina Estate I am sure someone will be able to direct you.:):)

Gerry grace (Grace's Garage,, Old cork Rd.) is a long-time, possibly founding, member of the limerick classic car club.
Google his number and give him a shout....he should be well able to sort you out.

As already mentioned RS have ceased trading. A pity in your case as Mike was always known as an Alfa specialist.

    Thanks for this.

I rang Mike on Friday and he's making a house call on Monday night to do the job. Thanks very much for the recommendation.

I have a second 131 twin cam with an older engine - I was thinking of commissioning an engine rebuild - Bearing, rings, seals, gaskets, skimmed head if necessary....I'll ask Mike if it's his sort of thing but again I'll ask for a local recommendation if one is out there. Ideally someone who doesn't charge an exorbitant hourly rate, knows what he is doing and would take his time...although I do expect to pay a fair whack for the job - Just not through the nose.

    Cheers

    Kev :)

Why do you want to rebuild the engine? Is it burning oil or was there a bigger issue? If its just to freshen up the engine with new stem seals, rings and bearings it shouldnt be too expensive or difficult.

Blue smoke on start up, a slight feeling of harshness under load, not quite the accelerative power I expect.

Having said that, the car did a 4500 km European trip in May without a hiccup cruising at an indicated 190km/h at one point and steady cruising at 140km/h for hours on end.

I think it's a high mileage unit though and doesn't give me the same Fiat twin cam rasp or feeling that I get from my 131 Sport.

I used a company in the Dock Road many years ago to recon. engines for me. I think they are still there. Autoshaft, 061 227422. They may be able to help/advise you.:):)

Mike from RS Autos did the job and the car is running beautifully afterwards - Best ever - Thanks for the suggestion.

Now I need to get a new exhaust - back box is gone and I've been thinking about going fully stainless steel.

What are the pros and cons? I like the idea of a "job for life" if indeed that is what it is. If I go ahead I'd like someone near Limerick who in case of problems later eg vibration, harshness, etc

    Again any suggestions very welcome....thanks

Exhaust note depends on what silencers and diameter pipe are used .

    Pros, long lasting .

    Cons, price.

Kev, there is a man in the Trading Estate, behind O Mara Motors on the Ballysimon Rd. I think it is called Emerald Exhaust. He is in business a long time and should be able to advise you.:):).

I didn't think Emerald dealt in bespoke stainless systems, I thought he just supplied spurious systems like bosal.

^^^ Exactly. Dan (Emerald) just deals in exhaust replacement. He deliberately doesn't even have a Mig welder ;).
There was a guy a few years ago down Windmill st (called 'Windmill Exhausts' funnily enough) who would 'make' exhausts to suit your needs.
Someone on here may know if he's still about.
Having said that give Dan Holmes in Emerald a shout, he may well be able to point you in the right direction.
