I'll be driving down from Llandudno in North Wales to London (via the A55/M6/M1) on Sunday afternoon. Does any one know of any Irish pubs along the way, that will be showing the football and hurling games?

Can you watch them on the RTE Player if you are outside the country? If I could find a pit stop with free wifi, I could just use the old laptoperoony

Can you pick up RTE radio in that neck of the woods? I'd be ok with that too. Last summer, I drove from London to Fishguard. I have a vague memory of being able to pick up RTE, the closer we got to the Welsh coast. But this time, we'll be driving away from the coast, so I'm not sure if that will work. Ta.

Probably a few in Birmingham alright - Erin Go Bragh clubhouse should be showing it. Don't think I got RTE radio when I was in Birmingham. There is the Irish centre in Birmingham as well that would be showing the games - it would mean you diverting a small bit and coming into Birmingham, think you'd normally be going around it. O Neills in Birmingham as well - if you look up Irish pubs there, you will definitely find one showing the games on Premiersport

You can't watch them on RTE player, but there is links available. I'm in London, and I can PM you the links if you end up stopping somewhere instead

RTE on longwave252 should be recievable the whole way to London seeing as its apparently available even in Belgium according to this post and I do vaguely remember listening to Morning Ireland on the way to Dover last September so its more than possible seeing as its only a 100km more to Belgium.

I'd have your radio and/or looked then in that case, by any chance are you driving a VW with a Blaupunkt radio, they are dreadful MW/LW receivers.

I hear 252 LW well enough during the day my in truck in Belgium and on a recent visit to Dortmund 252 LW was fine.:)

When I lived in Munich in the 80's I used to get RTE on 567 MW at night.

Back on topic a smartphone with Tunein radio APP using WIFI will serve you very well.

Thanks for the info. My car only has AM and FM. Is AM longwave, is it something else? I'd rather not use a phone to use the internet to listen to 3-4 hrs worth of games. It would cost me a fortune in date roaming.

Am liking the idea of heading into B'ham. It's out of my way, but I gotta stop for some grub somewhere, so I may as well stop somewhere where the game is on.

AM normally is LW and MW together and sometimes can be configured so that only one or the other appears.

So all you need to do is set the radio to AM and mess with it till 252 comes up. If only higher numbers in 500s and above are available then through the settings you can fix it so that the lower LW bands are also there.

Could be needing RTE on LW myself on Sunday as will be driving in Belgium and not sure if we will be near a pub or WIFI hotspot in time for the Football.
