Its usually cheaper to book through a hotels own website even taking into account the discount code! These multi-book websites make a profit by adding on to the original price, so look before you book.

Couldn't disagree more as someone who books a lot of hotels I have very rarely found hotels own website cheaper

I find it varies. I've gotten some better deals on booking sites and some better deals on the individual hotels' sites. It completely depends. The hotel I've just booked was the exact same price on both.

Any time I find a cheaper price with a third party I contact the hotel in question and almost without exception they will match or better the rate quoted by the other site. In addition, I find booking directly with a hotel means you generally get a better service, more likely to be upgraded, etc.

Good for you.. The majority of people however will not contact the hotel directly as it is inconvenient and why should they bother if the hotel were not willing to sell the to the room at a cheaper price in the first place to your regular Joe Bloggs....

I agree completely I always check.out the booking sites first, if I like what I see I go to the hotels site - their pictures are often clearer ... Then a quick skype call to reservations almost always gets me a better deal. Often times a better room too. Of course I always start the call with 'What's the best you can do...'
