    Also search for Vauxhall!

I was in the market for a new car. Ended up with exactly what you are after but it is a Vauxhall.

A 1.6 twinport, 06, 3 door, sxi. Top Spec - Nice dark grey color.

Have it approx 3 months. I like it, wouldn't be the fastest as 1.6's go but its better then some of its competition (focus, golf) in the same size engine.

There is a lot of them on the road (1.4's) the 1.6's are a bit more rare. If I was you I would defo go for a 1.6 just for the comfort of overtaking and things.

Let me know if you have any Q's regarding the car.

Ye well if you are trying to stick to a budget, it can be very hard to find a nice one. As another poster said they seem to hold there value quite well so they aren't exactly cheap.

I was looking at cars for a long time - anyway I found mine on DD. A guy in Waterford has a used car garage and was selling it. It had only 48k miles on the clock (low enough or a 06) but had a full service history and past and present NCT certs. Also everything checked out on cartell.

He initially wanted 5950 for it. Was giving it to me for 5500 with 3 month warranty. But through negotiation I found out it was actually his fiances and they had a baby on the way. She was a training to be a nurse in the UK and had bought it of an older woman who hated it and thus brought it back here.

Very long story short I got it for 5k cash - no warranty (3 months doesnt really mean much to me, particularly when they put in a load of exclusions in the fine print).

They sure do, but if you compare it to the Golf or Focus, the Golf in particular is a joke for retaining value, for what - I don't know?

    How about my ad :)

    http://www.adverts.ie/car/opel/astra/2005-opel-astra-sri-1-8l-3dr-for-sale/2982337

It's a 1.8 with full service history and NCT until June 2015. There's not many about if you want more than the 1.4l engine but not the whole hog of the 2 litre turbo.

Any interest in my wife's car? Lovely car, only reason we are selling is because of baby on the way and looking for a bigger, family car. Ps road tax is €385!

They are a common car so you should be able find what you are looking at on one of those sites in fairness.

    Hi BgozIE

I found one similar to yours with same spec, year and price but its got 86,000 miles on the clock - what you think?

    Thanks

Do you have a link to the car? You can PM me it if you want.

Its the same generally with any car. The mileage isn't so much the problem, its how the car was maintained over the course of those miles. So does it have a decent service history?

86,000K isnt a ridiculous amount of miles on a 06 (approx 12,000 miles a year). But you would need to be happy with the quality of the car and how it was looked after.

There is a few 1.4's with lower mileage for around 5k. I know I said go for the 1.6, but if you dont mind slightly slower/less performance. Maybe that would be an option for you.

Why an Astra? Why not a Focus or a Golf? Both are better cars.

Thats a bold statement, is that your experience as mine would differ especially with the petrol golfs

Focus could be arguable a better car, depends what you like. Its relative to your own opinion. Basing it on experience helps. (I prefer the Astra)

Don't rate the golf myself, over priced, over hyped.

Petrol Golf (1.4) is a slug. But a well made slug, which is classier than an Opel.

1.4 focus is also a bit of a slug, but handles well and feels nicer inside than that era Astra.

Experience based on driving all three.

    That is all.

I got my GTC on Donedeal last year.

Was really lucky. Found a 2006 GTC at a dealer in Ennis but he was looking for 7.900€ for a car with 110,000km on the clock and burned seats in the back...

Same day a guy put up an add for 2007 GTC. Paid 6k for it with 80k km. Full Service History and brand new tiers. if you look at donedeal always try to have a mechanic with you or ask for the seller to go to a garage with you. This way you are on the safe side.

    ;)

PS: Loving the car, however if anyone knows how to replace the MP30 and Display please let me know :)
