Living in Ireland, working for a UK-based company - how do I pay tax?

    Hi there,

I'm working for the UK branch of an international company that is not registered in Ireland. I'm a remote worker, recently moved back to Ireland from England. The company has no presence here, I simply asked if I could move, given I'm a remote worker anyway. I know my tax obligations are in Ireland, but can't figure out how to pay - the finance people at my company say I need to sort it out myself as the company isn't registered in Ireland....

But I've had two conflicting pieces of advice from the Revenue here: the first is that my company is obliged to deduct the tax on a PAYE basis, even though they have no presence in this country. The other is that I must self-assess.

Anyone here with experience of this who could offer some advice please?

    Thanks very much,
    Flim

Not allowed to give advice here, you have to talk to a professional. If the Revenue is giving you conflicting advice then ask for a clarification.

I would say that your employer DOES have a presence here - you!! :)

Thanks very much to both of you. Unfortunately, the Revenue continue to seem as confused about it as I am, so will take your advice srsly78 and ask a professional.

    Thanks again :-)
