Why are all these lightning strikes indicated?

I notice the Met Eireann Archived lightning strike display shows almost daily lightning strikes somewhere in Ireland regardless of the weather.

For instance, yesterday was a pleasant, fine day in the Mid-West all day, but I can see two archived strikes just North of Limerick City

Can anyone throw any light on the subject?

Sferics which is what are recorded are basically picked up by the static impulse a lightning strike makes. So any high voltage discharge or frequency impulse can easily fool the maps.

This is a bit off topic but those lightning strike reports are good if you had any electronic equipment blow out due to a power surge, and you need to claim from your home insurance.
