    Dell xp upgrade problems.

Hi I purchased a graphics card and an Samsung ssd recommended by one of the guys to upgrade the above pc. Unable to install windows 7 on the new drive.
The Dell pc came with Vista 64 and i upgraded to W7 tried to install on to the SSD but it is detecting that there has never been a copy of windows on it.Don,t have a copy of vista but I have the keys for it .If I was to put vista on first and then the windows 7 upgrade disc would this work a ?.Also tried the Samsung Data Migration but it keeps saying that the SSD drive has been disconnected any ideas on how to get windows 7 on to the new drive.
    Any help greatly appreciated

    1. Did you buy a full copy of Windows 7? If it is just an upgrade kit than as far as I know you need to have a full copy of windows installed on there already.

    2. Did you format the SSD correctly?

    HI
no its not a full copy its an upgrade version and yes I formatted the drive
before installing. Could I put vista on it first ? and then the upgrade disc is this possible to do Don't want to put a new licence on this as this is an old board will this tie the new licence to the board or the drive as the guys said to hold on to the board for another two years before i upgrade the board as it has an core i 7
processor and 1366 socket any ideas to get around this
    Thanks

If it's an upgrade version there needs to be a previous install on the SSD. So yes going from Vista to 7 should work.

No the license shouldn't tie to anything. As far as I know each license is specific to your copy of windows - nothing else.

If you want to re-install Win 8, you don't need to re-install win 7
