PS2 saving error?

Was playing FFVII on the PS2 slim yesterday. I saved the game onto a PS1 memory card fine but going back I discovered the game hadn't saved. Was playing FFVII on the PS2 slim yesterday. I saved the game onto a PS1 memory card fine but going back I discovered the game hadn't saved.

We've had issues earlier not being able to delete older saves from the card on this console and had to put it into the older, big, PS2 in order to do it.

We're going to bring it in to town get looked at anyway but I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and might give me a better idea as to what may be happening?
