Starting a thread on this because im a bit confused on how to power one of these. None of the ones in my cab have plugs on them. How do you actually power one?

    I bought one of these

    http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/Black-Arcade-JAMMA-Power-Supply.html

Thinking i needed to wire it up to this to power it, but now im not sure?

Can anyone tell me how to wire up an arcade crt for power? Ive tried googling it there but cant find any specific info on how to do it.. i should know this, but i havent a clue.

That power supply only supplies the Jamma harness (game board, speakers etc) with power. The monitor is powered by the mains!

Edit - pretty sure the power needs to go through an isolation transformer before going to the monitor.

Further edit - did a bit of googling and it looks like many monitors already have an isolation transformer built in :)

Last edit - what monitor do you have?

My two Polo 25's are powered directly by mains. But I've seen older cabs that have those classic type power supplies, where the monitor is actually powered directly by the psu. So I think it depends on the screen itself Keith...

Didn't one of the lads here power up an old 14" Poker cab screen on his kitchen table there recently, the one with burn in?

Ok, thanks for the replys, I dunno why I had the notion the monitors are powered by those psus.

Mitch has two more 14 inch monitors he said I could have so going to try and arrange collecting them and I'll know more. Urbanledge can probably tell me how to hook them up.

So one of them, with a jamma harness, speakers, buttons, joystick and. 60in1 board powered by a hdd plug should do the job... Hopefully..

    yep,
    just thinking tho.
the first monitor I tried was 220v
I just put a plug on it and it was grand.
the power cable coming out of it was a 2 core cable.both cores were white.
just where the cable meets the chassis there was a fuse so I took an educated guess on the fused side being the live and I was right.

fast forward a few days and I tried the same on the 2nd monitor I was giving to keith.
This one had no info on it at all.on the end of the power cable on this one was some sort of molex connector.
I just cut it off and put a plug on it.
not the best idea! All that happenend was flames from the flyback transformer and a load of smoke!!

    so maybe it was 110?
    i guess we'll never know!

You should have recorded powering that on with your camera! So some of them you can simply stick a plug on the end..

    lesson learnt,
if in doubt start with 110v!

How would you do that? Do you need a step down yokie?

It might have been expecting some odd voltage from classic style psu.

Looking forward to playing russian roulette with the monitors so!

Can anyone clear this one up for me..

If i power the 60in1 board using one of the molex style power supplys from an external hdd caddy. how does the jamma harness get "powered" or does it need to? do the buttons, speakers and all work through the power coming through the jamma connection on the 60in1 board??

i will show you how to wire it when you collect the monitors

The jamma harness is not powered as such, its simply a bunch of wires.
But you will have 12v and 5v coming out of it when the disk power supply is driving the board so make sure to either cut them off the harness connector or insulate them.

The speaker output on the jamma harness will be amplified by the board and ready to connect directly to the speaker.

Buttons are just switches shorting various signals to ground.

Ok cool, one more in the line of silly questions im asking in this thread. With the jamma harness i bought, there is a lazy mans daisy chain ground wire (Black) with spades on it. So i daisy change this onto the buttons etc.. where does it finish up? previously when i used one of these the end of it went into the iPac i had.. in this case to i wire it to the ground wire coming off the jamma harness??

Yep wire it to one of the Jamma ground wires
