Welfare questions

Hey ya, was just wondering if there is anyone out there who could help or advise me, see I lost my job about a year ago and have had no luck in finding one so as a result I've had to start claiming social welfare for myself and my son. Now I'm after having a second child (a lovely baby girl) and my boyfriend is also on social welfare as a result of an accident at work and while he was at the CWO he was told to start claiming for me and or children but when we spoke to a lady in their head office in Dublin told him that he would be crazzy to do things that way as our family would end up on less money than if we were to stay claiming as individuals with our children as my dependan.
So I guess my problems are, why would I get 2 different options from the DSP, and what did the first CWO have to gain by trying to fool us into the option of the lesser payments....? I hope I don't sound like a "taker" but we've both worked hard all our lives and paid our stamps and these days things are really hard these days and we really need any money that we are entitled to. Any advoice or suggestions would be greatly appericeated.

The CWO isn't trying to fool you or gain things from you, they're trying to help you. Maybe the two people you spoke you had different information about you or one had a fuller picture of your situation than the other one did. The CWO got into a job to help people, it's pretty harsh to accuse him/her of somehow gaining by giving you false information. Even if both advisors had the same information to work with, people make mistakes sometimes. Best thing to do is get a third opinion, that'll sort it out. But I wouldn't go flinging around accusations if I were you.

I would advise you is to check out the citizen information website or with the local citizen information office before you make a claim.
If you are applying for any type of benefit with the DSP they will want to see prof of your address, prof of income/savings ect. They can all to the address were you are making a claim from.
At the moment the DSP are are looking into all the claims they are getting along with the claims they are currently paying out.

I would advise you that if you make a claim at 2 different addresses when you are living together the DSP may look into this. I heard recently that the DSP are getting calls from people in regards to couples that are living together or people doing nixers.

If you are living with your partner and in the future he gets a low paying job you may be entitled to family income supplement once his income is under a certain limit.

You's would be getting a payment of around € 372pw if yous were claiming as dependents ,and if I'm correct if your renting a property you would Payless towards your monthly rent ,
On paper it would look like your loosing money but in fact your paying out less on rent ,
Which in most cases people would rather the lower contribution to rent
Are you's cohabiting and are in receipt of maintaince for your first child
