almera knocking noise

    noise coming from almera 2008 seems to befrom under the bonnet but hard to know its kind of a cracking knocking noise and only seems to be there when car is cold and for first 5 mins of driving but maybe it just isint as noisy when heated any ideas??

    A very vague question so the answer could be anything, however if the noise is from under the bonnet we can assume it's the engine!

    You could get a tapping noise while the engine is cold if you use the wrong oil. Try 5w30, anything else is probably too heavy.

    The same noise could be piston slap or big ends or hydraulic tappets or...

    sorry for being vauge its hard to explain the noise and not my car it belongs to a friend i was thinking the tappets meself thanks he is toolazy to get it looked at ha

    Would make it a lot easier if we can hear the actual noise.

    Noisy hydraulic lifters are very noticeable.
    You wouldn't mistake a noisy tappet for a knocking sound.

    You would literally describe it as a tapping noise.

    its more of a gets louder and faster as u put the foot down sorta sound and only lasts for first few minutes and never happens when reversing even when cold
