A friend of mine has a 2004 Jaguar X Type Diesel and some times when the brakes are pressed there is no brake. This only happens now and again. He put in 2 master cylinders but it is still the same.He took one master cylinder from a car where it was working perfectly but the problem persisted with the second car.He has also had great difficulty bleeding the brakes and can really only get half a pedal since changing the cylinders.Would anyone have any ideas please.

Jaguar ABS systems do not suffer newbies gladly. There is Ninjitsu in the bleeding of them. He should either get and follow the correct Jaguar technical manual for that year and model, or have the brakes seen to by a Jag technician.

there is a procedure for bleeding the abs/brakes using the diagnostic equipment but firstly id check the most common cause of loosing brake pedal on mondeo/x type = front hub nuts coming loose, causing the pedal to hit the floor after a long journey , and after a few pumps are ok again afor a while, did u replace the rear calibers by any chance or is the car only new to you?

Thanks for the replies. As I said its a friends car and we had another go at bleeding the brakes again today. There was a lot of air trapped between the Master Cylinder and the ABS ECu .By the time we were finished there was a good strong pedal. He did not road test it though as he was doing another job on it.Ive told him to check the hub nuts before he goes on road.

Still problems with the Jag brakes. It drove grand for a few miles and then all brakes locked on and could only be released by loosening the bleed nipples.Changed the master cylinder but the same thing. This only happens when the engine is running and it makes no difference whether the ABS is connected or not.Servo ?
