PRSI Dental cover confusion

    Hi All,

Was at the dentist this morning for a checkup and when it came time to pay I confidently went to the counter stating it should be covered as my yearly visit under my PRSI. (I have been working in the same company for the past 4 yrs, PRSI contribution being deducted every week.)

The receptionist told me that she had checked already and I was not eligible. I asked would she mind checking again and she did so as I waited, but again was told that I was ineligible.

Does anyone have any experience of something like this happening before? If so who should I contact about trying to get it rectified? I would like to be able to claim what little benefits I still have :)

    Thanks guys.

This appears to be a routine check-up. Routine Dental expenditure like teeth cleaning for example is not covered anymore. You can only claim for non-routine dental expenditure such as root canal treatment once you get a Form Med 2 completed by your Dentist. From reading what you wrote it appears this was a routine dental visit and thus is not covered anymore unfortunately!

I think the OP is talking about PRSI rather than tax. He should be entitled to a free check up, not clean, once a year with his class A (assuming he is class A) PRSI contributions. Seems very strange OP - maybe check with you employers payroll to see you are on the correct PRSI class

The amount of social insurance you need depends on your age.

    (1) Aged under 21
If you are aged under 21, you may qualify if you have paid at least 39 contributions at any time.

    (2) Aged 21-24
Between these ages you may qualify if you have paid at least 39 contributions

    (3) Aged 25-65
From the age of 25 onwards, you must have at least 260 paid contributions

Assuming you are over 25 , you must have 260 paid contributions , - That means working 5 years minimum
