Get quotes for a range of small cars - the premium will have a lot more to do with the proposer than the car.

Stay clear of civics, they're a higher insurance class, I'm on my second almera after having a civic in between and find the insurance very reasonable (full licence), although the newer almera (n16) have a 1.5 petrol engine which can fall into a higher insurance bracket compared to the older 1.4 models. Not too sure why and not with all companies either. You should just get a few quotes for types of cars your interested in. Pay a small amount more for something solid and reliable and you'll save in the long run over somethin cheap to insure and costing a fortune to run IMO.

Pick some cars that you're interested in and look for quotes. It depends entirely on your budget and what you're after.

funny i think its all relative.

trying to get quotes for my turbo starlet. (6 years no claims, 6 years driving exp, full license, 23, employed)

most companies wont even talk to me, any that do tell me the proposer could have 20 years no claims, but they just are not interested taking on that in that car.

What about an old classic. If it's 20 years old, then you might get cheap classic car insurance and there are some nice ones

For a car to be deemed a classic it has to be at least 25 years old, most insurers are iffy about giving classic insurance to provisional licence holders too, plus alot of them have age and mileage restrictions on classic cars.

Your best bet OP is something like 1.4 Golf, an Astra, something like that.

Not a "girl" car and relatively easy to insure however you can be sure, with a provisional and what sounds like no bonus to be used, it isnt going to be cheap no matter what you go for.

I'd look at some slightly larger cars. I started off in a 99 Avensis and had cheaper insurance than all my friends even though I had no NCB.
