Bad security?

I saw today on my Galway - Limerick (and return) journey that the driver doesn't lock the door, on either end. Even when driving. Shouldn't they prevent access to the driving section as a security measure? Surely this would be standard procedure on all railways?

You need a carriage key (a specific type of key) to open the door - it doesn't open by pressing down on the handle.

    It is therefore effectively locked.

Lol, I opened the door, it wasn't locked. This driver doesn't lock doors anyway. I'm talking about within the train by the way, not from the outside.

The mechanism must be busted if you could open it from the passenger side without a key, you shouldn't be opening it since you've no business in there.

would it not be a potential fire exit?

Depends on circumstances, if there was a staff member to open it and it was deemed a valid escape route.

There are break glass hammers for the windows anyway and I think the sliding doors can be opened mechanically.

BAD SECURITY!! Shock horror, the head line grab my attention to read this thread.
I wouldnd exactly lose much sleep or have sleepless night over it.
The Limerick / Galway passenger train Id say is not on the international terrorist hit list, I douth if there would be many hostages to be had, they have to find some passengers first:confused:

Cabs shouldn't be accessible except to railway personnel even when not the active cab since tampering may not be immediately detectable. End of. I hope you have dropped a note to the RSC cc to whoever the chief safety bod for IE is with times/dates.

This a sad attention seeking comment, and one which only highlights a level of ignorance when it comes to the meaning of what is meant by security.

My comment was ''tongue in cheek'' not attention seeking as you imply, or ignorance or causing offence, but if it cause offend, then I apologize.
    PS
My views on the WRC are well known at this stage, and maybe my comment belongs in the long running marathon WRC thread, but then who can resist when the Galway / Limerick line raises its head in a so called ''security thread'' this white elephant that was built in the Fianna Fáil madness which we are all paying for now.
We all go off thread for time to time, hands up who hasn't, Lapin is that your hand up I see.
