Hi. I have been told by mechanic that the bearings in my gearbox are funked. My options are get gearbox taken out and reconditioned or get a second hand gearbox . 170000 miles on the car. Any advice would be appreciated.

Recon the box would probably be the best bet. A secondhand box would/could be as bad as your own, they're very weak at the best of times.

A second hand gearbox could go on you a week after it was put in. With most reconditioned gearboxes they will come with some sort of warranty period.
