Do I need my own car to practise inbetween driving lessons?

I've just booked my first driving lesson this week.
I've heard you need to practise in between sessions.
My only problem is my mum does not drive and the people I could ask would be busy with work or whatever. One person did say they'd take me out.
The only thing is I'd prefer to drive a car that was my own. I'd feel bad if anything happened to their car plus the car would be bigger.

Or could I just book sessions with my instructor to practise with me inbetween lessons ?

Whats the best thing to do? Is it possible to just book block lessons like 2 a week without practice?
I could buy a car anytime I did plan on waiting until maybe completing a certain amount of lessons.

    Hi,

Im currently taking lessons myself. My instructor told me that practice is a good idea, but asked me to wait until after 4 sessions as he didnt want me picking up any bad habits (bearing in mind my lessons are 1.5 hrs each).
I had planned on getting my own car, as like yourself im too worried about messing up someone elses car :p

I think you can book two a week...i wanted to do that too, but my instructor is too busy. He said Summer is the busiest time for people taking lessons.

I am still looking for my own car....its not easy finding a good car for the right price. I do think I would def benefit from practicing in between lessons though. Each week it takes me part of the lesson just getting the feel for it again, if i was practicing more I dont think this would happen. Also, its taking a while for me to pick up certain things in general and I keep making the same mistakes over and over, so much so that I kind of dread my lessons now :(

One thing I would say is to wait a few lessons until you can give the car you want to buy a decent test drive.

I heard the guards are getting stricter about driving unaccompanied not that I would but if that was the only way to get practice in . I wouldn't in the early days anyway.
I have a few ideas about the cars I have 3 in mind.

Yeah I think my auntie will help me. I guess I could always practice in someone elses car like in a empty car park but they drive to and from the place.

It is not unheard of for people to do their 12 lessons and sit and pass their test with no practice driving done at all. However, the chances of you passing the test at the first go, would be far greater if you were able to practice what you learn in each lesson, before you do the next one. It will also make you a better and safer driver all around. What car you you practice in is up to you, as long as you are insured to drive it & a fully qualified driver is with you at all times.

Yes, you can probably book lessons without doing any practice lessons in between. Very few driving schools will turn someone away who wants to give them money. But don't be surprised if they tell you that you are just throwing your money away by taking driving lessons with them, if you are not going to do any practice driving between your lessons.

You don't need to take your practice lessons with the same instructor, and they are all definitely not run off their feet.
