Sky-UPC cable questions

    Hi,

Unable to find a thread which answers my question ( but will keep searching ).

Currently with Sky. Am thinking of switching to UPC (previous customer...long long time ago).

Q1. If I swiitch to UPC can they use the same cabling that is coming from the roof and entering through wall into sitting room and kitchen?

Q2. Do UPC still use those awful wire-mesh receivers?

I guess it is not a big deal in the sitting room but in the kitchen there is about 7-8 feet tacked along the wall to the Sky box. Granted I guess no big deal to remove and retack new cable.
May UPC will insist on new cable to guarantee installation?

    Thanks

If you're in an area that still relies on 'those awful wire-mesh' MMDS aerials for UPC, you won't be getting broadband. Would I be right in thinking that's your main reason for wanting to switch?

Conversely, if you've checked it out already & you can get broadband, then you won't be on MMDS. Don't know about re-using cables.

Were you a UPC MMDS or cable customer previously? Is UPC cable available in your area?

The UPC MMDS service via the wire mesh aerial is to end in April 2016 and at this time there is no replacement from UPC in non-cabled areas other than switch to Sky.

Regarding reusing the existing cable only the UPC installer on the day can answer that but if it's good quality satellite grade cable I assume they may reuse it for convenience alone.

You could of course reuse it yourself by replacing Sky non-sub Freesat receivers using the same dish, cabling etc.

Unfortunately we are unable to get decent broadband. We currently have Digiweb Wireless ( glorified 3G ) which they no longer offer customers I believe.

I was thinking mainly of switching in terms of price really.

Yes previously an MMDS customer, in the middle of the country side so cable is not an option.

Hmmm so from April 2016 it's either Sky, Saorview or Freesat - thanks for the link.
