Waiting on Supplementary Welfare from the Community Welfare Office in Galway

    Hello,

On June 10th I came back to Galway from London after completing a 5-month unpaid internship. Within a day or two I went to the Social Welfare Office in Galway and made a new claim. I was advised by them to go to the Community Welfare Office after I informed them that I had no money to live on. At the time I had just moved back into my parent's house.

The next day I went to the CWO and I was given a number of forms and I informed them that I was going to be moving out of my parent's house. I got the forms back in (posting them through the medical certs postbox) the next day and a day later the CWO rang me asking me to explain a lodgement of €50 into my account last April. She requested I send a letter in to them explaining that lodgement and she sent a form to my new house (which I moved in to over these couple of days) asking for my tenancy agreement. I got these back into them the next day, this was roughly around the 17th/18th June.

Two weeks later and I still haven't heard anything back from them. In that time I have had my interview for Jobseekers Benefit/Allowance and was advised to come back on July 10th for a means test - I received a call from the Social Welfare Office (June 27th) saying I didn't need to attend this means test as they had enough documentation and that they would be writing to me in the near future.

Is it normal for the CWO to take this long to give supplementary income? I explained to them that the lodgement into my account last April was a friend paying me back money I borrowed them last year and explained that I was able to put down a deposit for the new place I am renting with the help of the 2 people I was moving in with. I finally got through to the CWO office yesterday and while the woman who was requesting documentation earlier in this account of events wasn't there, a colleague of hers advised me that my claim for supplementary welfare was pending. Help?
