Shapewear + underwear?!

This is probably a strange question but do people tend to wear knickers underneath shapewear?
I bought these pants:

and I'm not sure if I am supposed to wear my own pants underneath.
I can't tolerate thongs so they'd be proper midis that I'd be wearing underneath. I don't want to feel too bulked up though.
I'm so confused!
