    Hi all

I'm pretty sure that I overpaid tax last year to the tune of about € 1200 due to either a mix up with my credits or a mistake by the payroll department. My monthly salary went up over €120 net in January without a payrise and my payroll tell me that I should be entitled to some tax back. When I input my details via online salary calculators it looks like my taxes were calculated incorrectly last year.

Will requesting a p21 correct this or would I be better off contacting revenue directly.

A P21 is a balancing statement, it will show you if you've under or overpaid tax during the year. If you've overpaid a cheque should follow, if not, follow it up with a phone call. Do your 2013 payslips look correct? Any change in pension contributions or other payroll deductions? Could your tax credits have been reduced in 2012 due to underpayment of tax in previous years?

If your living in the Dublin area you can ring 1890 333 425. Have your PPS number ready and they will tell you straight away if you have overpayed and can also process p21 there and then. If your not in Dublin area just go onto revenue.ie and look up contact details and find details for other areas.

Don't know of any reason why my credits would have been reduced, no changes to pension or anything like that. I will request a p21 and see what happens. Thanks for the replies
