Searching for a SH car and currently looking at either a VW Passat or a Honda Accord.

    Mileage: 10,000 miles per annum
    Budget: €10k
    Year: 2008/2009

I'm looking for something that has a bit of street cred, low tax, nice interior and good mpg.

Can anyone recommend one over the other or comment on whether my expecations are too high. Would prefer to buy from dealer.

Thanks for the replies. Any advice on my budget, mpg etc? Would I get an 2008/2009 for that price carzone averages seem to be in around €12k for an Accord? Also, whats the mpg like in a 2.2 diesel?

    2009 Accord for €16k http://www.carzone.ie/search/Honda/Accord/I-DTEC,-/37613710260563640/advert?channel=CARS

You will probably be looking at a high miler 2008 Accord with €10k and it will be the older model.

You won't get a new shape Accord for 10k, nor will you get a Passat with the newer 2 litre CR engine for that I'd say. You might need to add a few k.

I wouldn't spend €10k on a nearly 6 year old mediocre car. You can do better!

Low tax and good mpg are two criteria requested. Suggestions like an E39 540i manual will be a waste of keyboard energy on this tread I feel!

I was looking at accords as well in similar budget a while ago, but it's bit too little.
I ended up with Civic 2.2 i-ctdi which I'm more than happy with.

Many people in this country seem to be so ignorant / incompetent that they can't do some basic sums. I've shouted it from the roofs, but I suppose thick people don't understand or don't want to hear :)

Spend €10k on a nearly 6 year old car and your first years depreciation alone would be the guts of €3k

It's pretty much immaterial if you pay either €300 or €1,000 in motor tax for that first year...

As for fuel, 10k miles per year with the diesel doing 40MPG and the petrol doing 25MPG saves you less than a grand in fuel with the diesel

Why do mathematics lessons fail in this country? :)

Me, I'm thinking of getting a cheap BMW 525i petrol for my next car. If my mileage would somehow go up drastically during my ownership, I'll have an LPG installation built in :D

Go for an Accord if you can get a good one within budget.

Thanks for the above, can you recommend something for me based on mileage etc. Could probably squeeze an extra a few bob out the budget.
