Involved in online scam, very scared

Didn't know where to ask this, so I put it here. Mods can move it if they wish to the appropiate forum.

Anyway I think got involved with a scam online which I though at first it was a survey agents job. It went as far as me giving my address and mobile number to the person, so that they can send me a cheque for funding towards my assignments.
    '
But when I saw the amount they sent me which was 3000euros, I part of me thought there was something up, but another part of me was in denial about it as I had no job and really wanted to make some money. So I decided to lodge it anyway, because banks examine them for a week before they officially lodge the money to the account so at least I could have seen then if it was real or not.
But when I told the person, he gave me intructions on where to send the money, there was information that no one informed me beforehand, he told me to send the money through Western Union banks which are known to be untraceable and also I don't think they have any in Ireland. He also asked me to withdraw the money on the day I told him which was on a Saturday, which I was confused about since banks were closed and also he was asking way too soon since if he knew his work, that banks take a week to examine these cheques, so I knew then it was a scam.

Now the things is I am scared about the fact that he has my number and address and that he could nearly trace me back to Ireland to find me if he has the technology too as he is really pissed off when I told him that this had to be a scam and I keep having these scary thoughts, because you don't know what these guys might be like, they could just leave it be or come and find you....:(

Has that ever happened or do all scammers just leave it and move on to someone else?

I wouldn't worry too much about spending the €3000 if I were you.;)

It's just a scam, as long as you didn't send them any money you're in the clear.

Tell him the bank has told you the draft is bogus.

You won't hear from him again.

Could you not just go to the Gardai?

OK firstly we do have western union in Ireland, but this is 100% a scam. I would only use WU if I was sending money to someone I actually know.

Did the bank lodge this money order, did you get the 3k? Ask him for the western union details. if it's in romania or africa, it's a scam.

If you got the 3k, just spend it, nothing will ever come of it.

Go to the gardai if you are concerned for your safety. After Hours can't help.
