Hi, I have a packard bell laptop and using windows 8.

This evening the laptop died and when I plugged it in and turned it back on I the laptop wudnt connect to the wifi.
The signal bars have a red X on them and when I press the wifi button on the keyboard it just says flightmode on and off.

When I click into Networks where the available signals usually pop up it just has the options for flightmode on or off and under it it says WiFi(Off)

Anyone any solutions on how to turn it back on and get it working?

Is there not a user manual for the laptop?

When the power reached a critical state the laptop closed down. The wifi was probably turned off in the process. There must be a process for turning wifi on, as there is a flight mode in which the wifi is turned off.

There seems to be a lot of people using windows 8 with the same issue. its never happened before when the laptop died.

manual says press f3 to turn on the wifi. that turns on and off flight mode but it still says wifi off.

Go to the side bar with search share etc click on settings then change pc settings then go down to wireless and check to see if it is on in there.

I know you're talking about a different model, but a couple of the Dell laptops we use in work also have physical switches for the WiFi card.
Something similar happened one of my colleagues, it turned out she had bumped the switch to the off position without realising it. The switch was very small and along the side of the laptop. Worth a look...

find out exactly what wifi card is in your laptop, you might google this or simply open it up and read of the little card

Go to another computer and download your driver from manufacturers site, put it on usb

Go to problem laptop, uninstall the wifi network driver from device manager, and RESTART machine.

Windows might install the driver for you automatically, if it does not, install it from the USB downloaded file, in most cases you just double click the file and a way with you.

You may have to restart again once installation is complete

toggle the F3 button if needed

Does the wifi card show in Device Manager?

Can you see the wifi card in Network and Sharing Centre?

packard bell made me sent it back to them (acer in cork) and repaired the problem.. It happened a few months later and I rang them and they wanted it back again, I refused and wanted to know the original problem but they wouldnt tell me, they finally did and said they got it to work in safe mode and that it wasnt a hardware fault. I brought it into the local shop, who fixed it in a few hours for €5.

The bios had to be updated.

Any local computer shop near you can probably fix it in a few minutes.
