Losing job and moving counties

I'm going to lose my job in about 8 weeks time and if I don't find alternative employment in the meantime I'll be renewing my old JSA claim. As work is difficult to find I am considering moving to another county but don't want to get caught up in an administrative nightmare if possible. Is there any benefit to re-opening my claim where I live now and then moving counties and transferring my claim? Or is it much of a muchness?

My main worry is that as my last claim was JSA I'll be means tested and I'd most likely be going into a house share situation if I move so will they want to know who is living with me and how much they earn etc? And will I require utility bills etc. in my name to support my claim (again, may be a problem if I house share). Thanks!

If you need to apply for Jobseekers then you will have to apply in whatever area you are living in at the time. Depending on when you were last means assessed. If your claim is awarded and you then move it will have to be assessed again based on the new circumstances. You will have to provide photo ID and the Proof of Address, letting agreement or bill from the owner to with a note stating that you are living there. You will need to provide names of who you are living with but not the financial information unless you have a relationship with any of the other residents. It could be easier to apply from the new address as it would be just one assessment.

I would claim where I have claimed before, and transfer, personally, to transfer it is very simple, you will have to provide other imformation but your claim will be open already. If you already know the office, the people who will be dealing with you, the attitude etc. Once you are on the live register it will be a case of providing them with a new address etc when you move, but as you will already have a claim open I would think all this would be easier and you would not be subjected to the lengthy delays.. Hpowever if you are claiming rent allowance etc then it is not so straightforward and you need to have valid reason etc to move... hths
