Can't start one iTunes library on OS X 10.8.4

    iTunes is having a problem.

The message I get when I launch it is this

    ScreenShot2013-07-01at102946_zps9ec3c720.png

Last night it said Extras.itdb where it now has Genius.itdb.

Pressing OK brings up the Quit / Create Library / Choose Library option, but choosing the "non-working" library brings back the warning pictured above.

I keep 2 libraries on an external hard drive and one of them works fine. But the other gives the above warning. In the old days I'd just have deleted a few prefs files and gotten on with it, but I've never developed a proper understanding of OS X.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you hit apple (cmd) - I on the external drive, have you got ignore permissions on this drive ticked? Sounds like a read access error to me.

Sorry that was a tad unclear, select the external drive, then hit apple-i or under the file menu, get info.

I assume that really shouldn't make any difference as the library I can access is on the same disk. I've changed to these settings and restarted the computer, but I've gotten the same result.

Did you apply those permissions to the enclosed items (using the settings/wheel menu at the bottom)?

If that doesn't work just find the genius.itdb file and delete it. It's only Genius data. You can probably get rid of extras.itdb as well. Move it to the Desktop if you want to be safe.

Grand, dumped the genius and extras DBs and we're all good. Thanks very much.
