New NTA Interactive Route Maps

Just noticed this on the NTA website:
    http://194.97.141.172/rm/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?itdLPxx_tabNav=tab2&language=en

Seems to have route maps for ALL operators that are on the Journey Planner website rather than just the ones run by state companies, seems to be quite accurate and clicking a stop on the map will give departures from that stop.

You can search by operator or route number, so even if a service doesn't have a route number you can still get the details up without too much trouble.

Would be better if they used say Google Maps though since the maps themselves are not as helpful as they lack satellite view and street view.

As with the journey planner only fully licensed services are included even if those licensed services are in breach of their licence terms by being consistently late.

Another more serious issue is the timetables available on the NTA website which bear little resemblance to the actual timetables in that the places are named completely differently and are for the most part unrecognisable to even locals never-mind unfortunate tourists who might think this is of some use to them. Here is the NTA timetable for the Waterford to Tramore service operated by Bus Eireann http://194.97.141.172/rm/TTB/EFA03__000016b3_TP.pdf

Now compare that to the actual Bus Eireann Timetable http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1371808392-360.pdf

These guys: http://www.skyhightraffic.co.uk/ have a contract to analyse on-time performance.

The problem is the operators putting the wrong information in the location (Main Street) and description (opposite Post Office) fields.

The NTA timetable pdf is an amalgamation of the old and new timetables for the route - obviously until in order for the journey planner to source the relevant information over the two timetable periods.

I would think that it will be cleared up in due course, given the old timetable only ceased at the weekend.

Bear in mind that the NTA timetables include every single stop.

Look at the list of stops down along the side of the timetable though and they are impossible to decypher as all appear to be abbreviations. This appears to be the same for all the timetables on the site with only the most basic locations being recognisable. This makes these timetables useless for the general public.

I believe that is the form the operator submitted them in.

If that indeed is the case hopefully the NTA will require operators to adhere to a certain standard going forward with regards to layout to accept them.

I don't know which Waterford/Tramore timetable you are looking at (your link doesn't work) because the one that I'm looking at on the NTA site for both the 360 and 360A has full stop descriptions.

theres still a few bugs to iron out
If you put in 109 (Dublin-Navan-Cavan) it gives you an Ulsterbus route in Lisburn rather than the bus eireann one down south!

All the raw data is there * but what we need now is for it to all be made available on Google Transit/Maps in a much more user friendly interface.

    * Ignoring the expected bugs that are going to be there as Foggy has pointed out. Anything big and new like this is going to have some inaccurate data which will hopefully be cleaned up in time.

I am not getting that at all. You must be looking at an old version.

If I go to "find a timetable" and enter 360 or 360A I get a PDF that has none of those abbreviations.

I was looking at the timetables from the interactive route maps site linked to in post #1. That is what this thread is about. You would think they would be the same pdf timetables as used by the operators maybe tidied up a bit, but no that would make too much sense.

A lot of operators don't even have a website, never mind consistently laid-out timetables with the relevant information.

That server would appear not to have an up-to-date database.

From what I can see, this part of the website appears to still be under development - I would note that it has not been officially launched as yet.

Many Bus Eireann services aren't appearing on it.

For the record, the Waterford/Tramore timetable that I was referring to is here:
    http://journeyplanner.transportforireland.ie/nta/TTB/EFA02__00003fd0_TP.pdf

That version is a much better timetable with all the stops properly listed, these timetables may well be used for the interactive site when it is completed but why not use the better timetables from the start?

They are now using the better version of the timetable on the interactive map:D

    You are being watched. :)

Or, it being the start of July, they loaded the third quarter's submissions.

What options? I'm not seeing any.

Still just walking, car and cycling, no public transport directions.

It was suggesting bus stops if you entered a location, but didn't select from the main suggestion list.

And it shows the Bus Stop at Raheny DART station, but not the station itself :D
