No CoD for scrapped car

    Hi,
Over two years ago I had a car scrapped but I don't have a CoD for it. The car was lying in my driveway for a year before that so its been off the road since 2010 (I contacted the tax office at the time as it wasn't roadworthy). Anyhow, when it was removed I sent the log book to Shannon but they sent it back to me. I had completely forgotten about it until I seen the news this morning about the motor tax loophole. :(
The guys that scrapped it for me had been doing some building work at the house and towed it away.
    What should I do now?

Tell them it was a mistake about having scrapped it and you sold it/gave it to this guy who took it away (for spares/repair as far as you know). A name and address might help. This is the true story is it not?

    Hi

Im in a similar situation. Car was towed and scrapped on my behalf, but as I didnt leave the log book with the car no COD was issued. I had forgotten about this too until the new car tax scheme was announced.

I contacted the department of transport and explained my situation. I was told that I would need to fill in a form stating that the car is no longer owned by me, and write a letter explaining the circumstance that the car was scrapped (how, when, where etc) and have that signed/witnessed by a solicitor or ombudsman. Once they get that the should be able to update their system and I wont be liable for tax.

I would suggest contacting the department of transport and they should be able to help.

So what exactly is the situation now?

I thought the loop hole was that once you went to tax the car again you would be back charged un paid tax.

If you take a car off the road and never put it back are you still liable for the tax?

no I don't think you are. If you don't sorn it, it only becomes a problem if you want to revive it later.
