Hi, I notice that all the people on the fide list from IRL seem to have vanished?

Does anyone know why this is or whether its a blip at fide's end.
    So for example

    http://ratings.fide.com/topfed.phtml?tops=0&ina=2&country=IRL

    is empty !

Only rating for irish players showing at all is for blitz. standard and rapidplay = no IRL players with a fide rating on the list?

explanation is simple. fide HQ is in germany and they must have listened to the anglo tapes , combined with allegation of cheating in ireland, fide decided blitz results was the only trustworthy tournaments in ireland. what you doing checking this at 2:30 am ?

I would be almost certain it is because the ICU owe Fide some money and they forgot to pay!

If you look up some individuals, like Baburin or Kelly, you'll find they are now recognised as being German by FIDE (and everyone else).

It's the same with FIFA and the IAAF. Go check.

    :pac:

its very strange and the reason i asked is i have a fide in 2100-2200 range and registered for IRL and its makin entering the british tricky as they need fide rating/number

Better off dropping the ICU a line - either Jonathan O'Connor or Mark Orr.

It will all be sorted fairly quickly I would say.

@ Chess2k just out of curiosity how come you are playing in the British and not the Irish Championships?

Your rating might get reinstated in 2014... Several high profile countries have been deleted from the FIDE rating list.
Did anyone notice that Ireland mysteriously jumped up 10 places in the January 2013 rating list?
Consider yourself lucky if you still have an ICU rating. FIDE does not tolerate dissent or missed payments. The penalties are very harsh indeed.

2014?? u gotta be kidding me and sorry what do you mean by missed payments. you mean IRL didn't pay fide? where is the official word on this on ICU website? no ICU rating either is this a joke or you trying to make out ICU has ended or somethin lmao.

This is a complete shambles lol

Where did you get the 2014 info from?

So what happens if I play Fide-rated games in the meantime? They don't count, or are the results put on hold until the rating is reinstated?

Regarding the ICU rating, I don't see how FIDE could remove that, considering the ICU rating is managed by the ICU.

Somehow I get the feeling that if the cheque's a day late they wouldn't really go nonlinear over it, seeing as how all this has happened before...

I would be very surprised if this isnt all sorted out by the end of the week, I would guess a fee had to be paid to Fide for games played or perhaps for the John Hughes transfer. All games will be rated that are played.

Its an obvious admin error and will be rectified quickly, mistakes happen and to anyone complaining why dont you volunteer to the ICU committee to make sure no mistakes happen!?

Fide is the joke here and not the ICU, they charge €1 per game to rate and are clearly quick to remove a countries ratings if a payment has not been made straight away. The new rating list are updated every month so I imagine this has caused extra work for the treasurer in a role which is completely voluntary.

@ chickenraised . it's 1 euro per player per tournament and not per game .anglo guys got paid big money and made a mess of everything what do you expect from unpaid volunteers in icu ?

Did you contact the ICU like I suggested earlier?

What good do you expect to come of ranting on an unconnected messageboard?

how can u not acknowledge the validity of posting about this issue on a chess forum . one with lots of irish members.

hardly a rant. strange reaction from you seems to me

Yeah, but it's a discussion forum; not the ICU hotline (those are here). Seriously, if you're worried about the rating for entering the British championships, call the ICU first and sort it out, then complain about it here ;)

Because none of the ICU exec are on here? How's anyone else going to know what the problem is?

If you want an answer, ask the ICU.

    Not that difficult.

Not difficult to ask, can be difficult to get an answer though!

nope. if it was just me removed from list then you would be absolutely right as it would be just my issue to solve with the relevant body.

However as its ALL players from Ireland removed from the world ranking lists, this makes it a big discussion point, its interesting even for people who play for other national federations.

Feel free to quote part of my 2 line post and then make a put down cdeb though :)

True. But it's going to be more difficult getting an answer here!

You don't think maybe , just maybe both can occur? To ask a question on a forum AND the ICU .

    /gasp

Sparks omg you want every single irl fide rated player to ring and ask? rather than ICU to clarify on website or something. thats such gr8 advice

    Like, OMG dude!

'course, it might just take one person asking and they'd put a clarifying statement up afterwards (or that one person could post here), but those would be "common sense solutions"...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 chess2k

nah common sense would be it never occurring in first place

common sense solution would involve the national body preparing or informing players of what would occur. If it really was fees (i have no clue what it was) then this was something they knew was coming up.

All this over a Week after the fide's have gone down yeh? and could be longer as it was just me spotting it as i was trying to enter a tourn... truth is nobody seems to know anything and i have had no reply from emails from ICU.

So tbh the stabs on here for mentioning it in the forum is pretty odd to me. For all i knew someone would know.

    Course they can.

If you want to know what happened, ask the ICU.

You do want an answer, don't you? Or is it just attention you're after?:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 chess2k

this is a chess forum and so discussing a chess matter is legit. im a fide rated IRL player ... asking a valid question... feel free to actually contribute to the discussion rather than just saying "ask the ICU " , quoting a random bit of my text then insulting me .

You know iv asked the ICU . chosen to ignore it and seem to want to start an argument which is lame

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭checknraise

I have asked an ICU committee member and it is due to the only logical scenario they missed a payment to FIDE and it will be sorted out soon enough. It is not a big deal. I have no idea why they havent posted a message on the website but as they all work on a voluntary basis I imagine they are busy with their day to day lives.

I can guarantee you it would not be a problem to enter the British championships as there are only 3 Irish players qualified from what I can see to the main tournament and it wouldn't matter what rating they have, for everybody else the ICU can nominate 2 players besides any titled players that can automatically play and if you are one of the lucky 2 you wont have a problem.

This is also besides the fact that anybody can search for the player in question and see their previous rating easy enough its just that FIDE isnt showing it on the website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭EnPassant

If you have an ICU rating you can still see your June FIDE rating on the ICU site (if you you are IRL-registered - it doesn't show FIDE ratings for non-IRL registered players)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 chess2k

Hi , thanks for the post.

Atm its not possible on the fide site to check a person's rating if from IRL. The closest you can do is to trek through their historical games and work it out from the rating changes.

As its confirmed its only temporary by the time i play next fide tournament it should be up so no worries and the tourn will be fide rated as normal.

    Cool

Could be unfortunate for the person travelling from America to play in the Irish who hoped to change federation in time to play. I guess he wont be able to play now.

He is registered as Irish - click the link above. In fact, he's Ireland's leading junior according to FIDE!

    This raises the question
since there are no IRL registered players on the July FIDE list

is everybody ineligible for the Irish Championships?

This just in from the ICU (top of the home page)

"Due to the hospitalization of our treasurer last week, a payment to FIDE could not be made. This has now been done, and I (chairperson) have been assured by FIDE that the Irish FIDE ratings will be back online sometime this Friday afternoon."

This would be a good example of why you ask the people responsible for the job first instead of saying unpleasant things about them in public first...

Seconded. Noel is an absolute gent and I hope it is nothing serious and he is back in full health soon.

I was wondering what would happen if I tried to enter a tournament starting the 2nd of July without a Fide rating, outside Ireland. How would the pairings work?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,278 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Either you get the rating off icu.ie or you've entered in advance before the ratings were taken down, I assume. So no issue either way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 chess2k

i think for most events you appear unrated till fide put IRL fide's back on site.
