So close and then so far (to bike purchase)

Having followed advice on bikes on a couple of other posters' recent threads I had pretty much decided to get a Triban 7 from Decathlon using the bike to work scheme - £599.

However see they don't deliver to Ireland.
Has anyone managed to use the bike to work scheme with Decathlon. How did it work delivery wise - is there some way around this using Northern Ireland..?
Also - was it possible to get the invoice issued net of VAT as would be required for BTW?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the BTW aspect, but I read on here in the last week or two how someone had sorted delivery. It involved a phonecall to the store and they told him to add a certain item to his basket which had the correct value to cover the delivery charge.

Can't imagine it's possible, fairly certain they have to be ordered from Irish retailers.

Stetyrell - the BTW doesn't have to be pursued through Irish retailers.
The BTW thread advises that purchase can be made from overseas however there is a possible VAT double exposure which needs to be avoided by getting the exporter to issue the invoice net of VAT
Would be interesting to hear if anyone had been through this before, and what the end result was...

Otherwise I may be back at square 1 again here.
I'm seeing this on a separate thread:
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/moser-bikes-speed-sora-2013/

It looks like it might be an option although I'm thinking the Tiagra shifters would be preferable.
Does anyone have any ideas on models offering Tiagra in/around €600?

If that's the case then you could order the Btwin to the Decathlon up north. You could order on the phone and just tell them to supply the invoice incl. VAT.

Yes - that's true, although could do without a trip up to Belfast.
Also still might have some compliance issues with BTW showing UK VAT and not Irish VAT.

If anyone has any other ideas about road bikes available to order on-line or available in Ireland (Dublin) at EUR 600 range (Including Tagra set) I'd be grateful for suggestions.

There are no compliance issues with UK VAT. If the company sells enough into Ireland, it will charge irish VAT rate, if not, it will charge UK VAT. In either case, your company is fine as it is not selling the bike on so its VAT liability is covered by the UK VAT.

Cdaly - that's not how I've understood the BTW VAT including reading the big thread on this site.

From my understanding Decathlon would charge UK VAT, then me (employer) is effectively importing the bike to Ireland so would have to self account for Irish VAT (non reclaimable) - so taking a double hit for VAT.

I believe that 2013 SORA is the equivalent of 2011 Tiagra (maybe not exactly the same but the shifters certainly look similar)

Have you contacted them about delivery to Ireland?

I spoke to them at Christmas about getting a trainer and they were delivering to Ireland then. You just had to phone the store to sort it out and it cost €9.99.

You basically ordered the item for store pick up online and added a dummy item that cost €9.99 (for the delivery cost) and then rang them with your actual address and they'd ship it out.

com1 & Lemlin - thanks for the input. I'll look into both again.

Lemlin - funny to hear from you - its your thread I've been following with interest for ideas for myself.

No bother at all. The thread isn't even for me. It's for a friend and now he can't even get a bike until October!
