The first Ian's Trust Moon and Back Cycle takes place on August 10th in Kilkee, Co. Clare. The event is a fundraiser for families of children with Acquired Brain Injury and is held in the memory of Ian 'Bean' Cusack.

Two great routes with a choice of 120km and 55km. Both routes are designed to take in as much of the Loop Head coast as possible so you are guaranteed a spectacular day on the bike.

€25 entry gets you entry, technical t-shirt, refreshments on the route and post event BBQ.

There is also a 10km run / walk that covers the same route as the Hell of the West triathlon run. (entry for the walk run is €20 and you also get entry, technical t-shirt, refreshments on the route and post event BBQ.)

There is a prize of a signed Nicolas Roche Jersey for all participants who register online.

    Looks great.

Any idea of the numbers doing the 120km?

This does indeed look interesting. Myself and my gf happen to be in Lehinch that weekend and were planning on doing a good hard spin on the saturday and this might just fit the bill. It looks like a spectacular route.

Quick question - what are the roads like, ie. is it called moon and back because you've to navigate moon-surface like roads? Put it another way: carbon racing bike or winter training bike with puncture-protected tyres?

It is a great route. Roads are perfect apart from small stretch but even that is more than adequate. Shine up the carbon bike!

In terms of numbers (based on registrations so far) hoping to have 200 or more doing the cycle with the majority of registrations opting for the 120km so far.

the t-shirts arrived today and they alone are worth the entry fee

This Saturday! Only found this event tonight & registered. Actually have plans for 3 different cycles for this w/end with 2 on Saturday so if I can get up early enough to catch ferry to Kilrush, this'll be the event I'll attend. If not, then grand as monies going to one massive fund-raiser anywhoo.

    Register here :)

Only 60km cycle though so I'll be cycling from Kilrush -> Kilkee -> 60km loop -> Kilrush (approx 90km) and ferry back home bout lunch-time all going well!
