I have sold a wall mounted stuffed owl on eBay just now .

Can anyone on here tell me the best way to package this as it is quite delicate and needs to be very secure , as it is going to Nevada USA .

I've never done it so all I can offer you is how I personally would go about it..

I'd get a box plenty big for it, fill it 1/3 way with packing foam pieces (you can get that stuff in a good stationery shop AFAIK. then nestle the owl into it and gently but firmly pack around it and cover it with more packing foam. I'd very slightly overfill it and close the box over it compressing it all together slightly to ensure there's no movement during transit.
Maybe wrap the owl with a plastic bag first though to keep the foam off it.

Don't know if that's good advice but its the approach I would take.

If its an old skin it could be particulary delicate and require extra care. Maybe worth consulting a professional taxa on it. Also as its a protected species it will require some sort of note by the NPWS(explaining how you accuired the bird eg. found dead, roadkill, old skin etc.) to make sure it gets through customs.

Don't forget the legal documentation that will be required also for this bird.

    Aw, maaan.....

I post on here the odd time. Enjoy the spoils when pals throw a bit of venison etc my way. Not in the least bit anti-, but who hunts an owl? And why?!?*

    :(

*If the owl died of natural causes, disregard the above...

    Despite my above post......

Bad idea. Cyanoacrylate glues have poor lateral strength. One good bang and the glue join can 'shatter'. Wood glue would do a better job.

These pieces tend be very old skins(before wildlife laws came in) or animals that died as you say from natural causes. Both must be confirmed by a NPWS certificate before an animal/bird can be stuffed, sold or passed on.

Everything was above board and done correctly , as the Taxidermist had to get permission to stuff the bird .

All info should be recorded by the NWPS , so I will ring them tomorrow

Also, it's worth noting. that you can not sell any protected bird or animal in Ireland, dead or alive, unless you are in possession of a current wildlife dealer's licence. Which is applied for,and issued by the NPWS.
