It doesn't really tell you more than what's viewable on your account on the website, and charges you to view transaction history!

Is there no official app? Might have a go at doing a free full featured app for my next project.

No there isn't, so please do, it would be very welcomed.

It is a pity iPhones don't have NFC yet.

Makes no odds, the App linked in the OP isn't using NFC.

Ah, right, pretty pointless so. The balance shown on the website has no relation to the balance on your card, it can be up to 48 hours out of date.

Only an app that actually read the card balance via NFC would be useful.

Sorry about my initial misunderstanding, I don't have an android phone.

Unfortunately the leap card has encryption so unless a developer can get his hands on the keys you won't see an app that can read the card directly

I reached out to the NTA to see if they would release any keys (even one with just reading permissions) but it seems to be a no-go.

    Hi,

I wrote this app and thought I'd post an update.

Unfortunately there is no way to read the leap card directly via NFC unless you can decrypt it. Bar leapcard.ie releasing this information or someone giving me time on a quantum computer, I don't think it's possible.

The iPhone app has been submitted and is awaiting approval. I'm hoping it's going to be approved over the coming days. I submitted it last week, but you have to wait for a human to review the app before they allow it on the app store.

Regarding the balance not being real time -- yes, this is true. Unfortunately, the real-time balance is not available from leapcard.ie. The balance can be up to 24 hours stale. What you get with this app the exact same balance as appears on the leapcard.ie website.

Finally, you may or may not trust me with your leapcard.ie login details -- I need this information to login on your behalf. This is disclosed up-front. I can assure you that I have neither the interest nor the inclination to log username/passwords. At the end of the day, you have the choice to install the app or not.

Anyway, there have been nearly 50 downloads since the first release a couple of days ago; including a couple paid downloads! I'm really happy with this. I'm not looking to be the next app millionaire, but if I can provide something that people find useful; I'll be happy.
