Wouldn't mind having as much money as them though. Ha ha. Still though...

One exec made a passing remark. Hardly the whole company publicly coming out with it

Hate to say it, but maybe the world wouldn't have had to wait 9 years for a proper donkey kong game if Microsoft had got the rights :\

Not sure what you are talking about. In retrospect the DKC games weren't all that great and we've had superb mario vs. Donkey Kong games before DKCR came out.

Fair enough if you don't like them but the donkey kong licence was wasted for a decade with Nintendo. He was just a antiquated relic surviving in Mario spin-offs. Yes he is one of Nintendo's oldest characters but he deserves the mainstage.

That and nintendo has never known what to do with him really :\

I haven't played the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series yet, thinking of getting the two on the e-shop. Would you recommend them?

I actually hate the look of their new Killer Instinct game. :( I was a huge fan of the original too. (Orchid's massive combos FTW)

It looks just like SFIV with a KI skin.

Yes they are very good. If you liked Donkey Kong on the Gameboy then you'll love it since they are similar.

Never played any the gameboy games, do you think the DSiware or 3DSware title is better?

I remember getting Donkey Kong on the GB, I simply assumed it was a port of the arcade game, which would have sufficed, but then it turned into this amazing game, or rather even more amazing, tons of original levels.
The game is then transformed when used with the Super Gameboy.
A must have, I still have my copy.

DKC is ok, but the two sequels added nothing new to the formula and that was that, whilst the Mario platformers always seemed to bring something new to the table.
Sure, there were times when something I loved got tossed out as well, like the broadly open world of SMW, but overall the franchise has been a relatively rich seam of good ideas.

And, there were plenty of good DK games over the years,
    DK Jungle Beat
    Donkey Konga/2/3
    Donkey Country Returns
    Diddy Kong Racing
    Donkey Kong Barrel Blast

But Donkey Kong 64 was a big, bloated mess.

And, regarding the OP, it was one ignorant exec who asked did MS now own DK due to the big poster on the wall of Rare's offices, not the company at large.

It's silly but when I watched an Ultra Combo video and heard the announcer scream ULTRAAAAAA but not COMBOOOOOOO I said "we can forget that", can't have ULTRAAAA without COMBOOOOOO ffs

The announcer just said Ultra (with a big old echo behind it) on the Snes version.

    you sure?
I remember it as "uuuuuuuUUUUUULTRAAAA COMBOOOOO-OOoo-oooo-..." too but I'm not sure was that the game or just what we shouted at other people after using a Newtons Cradle effect to shove them out of a row in a packed lecture theatre...

Yip, the Snes version just had the big booming "Ultra" repeated a few times while fading out into the distance. "Ultra Combo" was yelled by the announcer on the arcade cabs.

I think dkc2 is a brilliant game, it added so much more than the original which is also a good game. By the time dkc3 came around they ran out of ideas, there's some decent levels though

Never got into the KI series, not a fan of the combo system
