    Hi guys,
I was looking for information.....So if you are caught with your mobile phone while driving you are given penalty points and possibly a fine on top of that

What happens if you are changing song on your iPod? Will you be given penalty points aswell?

Iv never heard of anyone getting fined with their iPod

I'd say you could. Heard something about all hand held devices being included.

I'm guessing you, or a friend were stopped. Up to three points now as well. Looks like your or your friend is going to have to wait it out to see if that notification arrives.

iPod falls under entertainment equipment I would imagine.

They might get you for dangerous driving or more likely driving without due care. Not to sure if mp3 players are covered under the moblie phones law.

They are indeed. Road Traffic Act 2006, section 3, subsection 4(d).

"(4) The Minister may, to avoid the impairment or interference with the driving capacity or capabilities of the driver of a mechanically propelled vehicle, make regulations in relation to the restriction or prohibition in mechanically propelled vehicles in public places of the use of—

    (a) a mobile phone (other than in the circumstances referred to in subsection (1)),

    (b) an in-vehicle communication device,

    (c) information equipment, or

    (d) entertainment equipment."

Edit: already covered by backwards dude.

OP is looking for information, not advice. Mixture of information/uninformed opinion thus far. Where was the advice?

    :)

I never saw the sense banning phones, I never had a problem talking on a phone while driving.

Now eating, that's an accident waiting to happen, ice lolly, salad sambo or a twirl are the worst.

Ah yes..phone to the ear, coffee in one hand, sandwich in the other, steering with the left knee.
    Those were the days......

Yeah I work in a shop and see people driving off with big 99's in one hand. Seems to be more dangerous as your're concentrating on it not falling as well.
As for phones, I completely agree that they should be banned to save lives on the road.

Apple products are not exempt. Any handheld device while driving is under the same umbrella as using a phone. In fact, you can, rightly in my opinion, be done for eating a mars bar while driving.

You'll either get a verbal warning, an €80 fine and two points, or be reported / prosecuted for a more serious offence like careless driving.

For a penalty point offence, you will never get a fine only or points only, unless it goes to court - and even then very rarely.

On another note, purely as an aside....

Could the google machine not be used to answer queries such as these? It is rather good at that sort of thing...

    People have heard of google?

It says the minister may make regulations.. So either he has or he hasn't.. so its either a yes or no answer..

    Anyone find these regulations?
