Written by Graham Linehan and Steve Delaney (who also plays the title role)..

First pre-watershed creation from Linehan, but couldn't help but cringe at the trailers.

Also stars the excellent Rory Kinnear.

Starts on July 8th on BBC2.

Seems from the trailer to be a bit of a departure from his previous stuff like Fr. Ted and IT Crowd. Looks like more of a traditional sitcom along the lines of Vicar of Dibley or something.

It is adapted from Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show which has been running since 2005 on BBC Radio 4 (although I have never listened to it, to be honest).

The Radio Show was written by Steve Delaney, Graham Linehan wasn't involved.

Watched the first two episodes. It's very bad.

I was so disappointed with this. I really expected a lot better from Graham Lenihan, and thought Rory Kinnear was really annoying, to say nothing of the Count Arthur Strong character...

The ratings have started off poorly and got steadily worse
BBC2's new comedy Count Arthur Strong continued its downward trend with 693k (previously - 971k, 802k). It now moves to Tuesdays at 8pm.

The decision to greenlight a second series before the first episode aired now looks very premature.

Second series starts next Tuesday 6th Jan at 10.35pm

That is a radical change of scheduling, it has been moved from BBC2 at 8.30pm to BBC1 at 10.35pm. Unusual for a show did poorly first time around, but it might find an audience in its new home.

People are a bit too quick to jump on Linehan, IMO. I don't know if there's a bit of 'Oh, look how the mighty have fallen from Father Ted and The IT Crowd!' about it, but he got fairly roundly attacked on Twitter after the Walshes aired (and The Walshes was pretty good for an RTE production) even though he had little to do with the genesis of the series. Those characters were long since in place (Diet of Worms' Taste of Home) before he ever got on board, but it was 'The new series from Graham Linehan!' in the ads. No, Linehan was there to direct and help them with the writing, but it's far from his brainchild.

Similarly this series was around long before Linehan, yet the guy who created it, performs the main character and 'co-writes' it doesn't even get a mention in the thread title. I'd reserve judgement on Linehan and how his own creativity is progressing until he comes out with his next self-penned series, whenever that is.

I've never seen either of the earlier series but I'm tempted to give the first episode of this new series a go.
