personally I find the custom from PCSPECIALIST.co.uk... to be very good in price.

But if you're touch screens or ultra books there are some lowcost sites, than another user here generally links to.
ASUS is a good brand for cheap + good hardware (flimsy cases though)
    Dell isn't too bad either.

+1 for custom build from PCSpecialist,

I've just build one 2 weeks ago OP, the whole process is very easy and works out cheaper than the equivalent known brand with equal quality by 200 - 300 euro

you can also get 15 pound off vouchers for PCspecialist (just google it, first link will have a list )

Just bought the perfect laptop for me ^_^, can't wait for it to arrive!

I suppose that's the one downfall, it's take that bit longer for it to arrive, I've been waiting 16 days now :(

Presuming there getting a lot of orders with Haswel processors in them maybe delaying the process a bit,

    Will be worth the wait

at the order, before processing..the average time it takes was over 20 days or so ..they're probably busy with orders

    As I said,

I'm sure a lot of people waited for the release of the Haswell Gen 4 processor, creating a bottleneck now

What's the deal with their crap screen resolutions for anything smaller than 15" ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭looking_around

maybe it's because only two of their laptops are smaller than 15"?
    an 11.6" and a 14"

I doubt their common orders, means not much stock etc.. and anyone who orders a small screen, isn't normally expecting great res anyway.

However if you find a screen you want and you think would fit the laptop size you're looking at, you can contact them with it and see if they can fit it to the laptop.
They'll do it if they can :)

My order has now passed Pre Production and is awaiting Test and configuration!

Shouldn't be too much longer now, a week max!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭looking_around

Meh...12"-14" is the ideal laptop size IMO...all the OEMs sell them and at a premium price because of their desirability...just look at the VAIOs etc...small shouldn't equal sh1t screen resolution.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭looking_around

are you sure it's a premium price because of desirability of because less want it?
(I sold PC's for over 2 years. netbooks were not the most common sellers...and those that did buy them wanted them as cheap as possible..simply for note taking and word processing.)

Why don't you contact pcspecialists directly and see if they can improve the resolution for you?
