Ya really coundn't make this stuff up

John Perry, the Fine Gael Minister for Small Business, is being taken to court by Danske Bank which is seeking repayment of close to €1.3m in loans racked up during the property boom.

Question is is his position as minister of small business tenable

What the hell is a minister for small business supposed to do?

If he had credit judgements agains't him, how the hell could a state owned bank lend him money

Mr Perry's finances have come under increased scrutiny since it emerged he had been landed with an unregistered judgement by Airtricity over a €13,000 debt two years ago. Last August he was embroiled in a court action over a disputed €1.3m debt.
Despite these financial reverses and credit issues, Mr Perry was given a new loan by state-owned AIB last year. Registry documents show a mortgage in favour of AIB was registered over one of his land assets in Stonepark, Ballymote, on June 13, 2012. The charge over the property is held by AIB mortgage bank

Ironic, considering the biggest problem facing small businesses is getting liquidity from the banks

As it says in the title, promote small businesses, something that successive governments have failed to do. We all see the Taoiseach, various ministers and local TD's show up for the opening of every new foreign owned bsuiness or expansion of an existing business but in reality one of the biggest problems facing Ireland is the lack of small businesses employing 10-50 people. It's difficult to set them up and run them and so long as the government isn't prepared to promote Irish businesses here and abroad it will do nothing to reduce unemployment figures here.

You might ask what functions Perry has that Richard Bruton doesn't and what his office entails and what have they done over the past two years to promote small businesses, that would be more interesting.

For me the biggest question here, and it's a question that the media should be asking but for some reason, they aren't.

People in the North West have known for some time that Perry has huge debts, the fact that he can readily get more capital like that off a state owned bank is frankly bizarre and warrants investigation.

    This is absolutely shocking

SligoToday.ie reported in April that Mr Perry had claimed a staggering €131,386 in transport costs. The whopping claim is over €53,000 higher that that the claim paid to his 'boss', Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton’s whose costs were €78,267

Perry is a Sligo TD, Bruton north Dublin. Both figures are huge but surely the disparity is unsurprising?

Bankrupts aren't allowed to be TDs, but presumably he'll wriggle out of that.

Should Mr Perry be allowed to vote on any legisation relating to banks in future, as IMO he can no longer be seen to be imparsial ?

He should be turfed out of the party on his ear.

Sickening to think Lucinda got thrown out for standing over what she believed in, yet this parasite will most likely get full party backing.

Does this in itself not raise the issue of a conflict of interest

It also claimed Mr Perry, a Fine Gael TD for Sligo-North Leitrim, cancelled various meetings with it before attending a meeting at Danske's offices at Kildare Street, Dublin, last April 17 when he indicated he was seeking funds from AIB.
Mr Perry also said he knew Richie Boucher of Bank of Ireland and would progress a refinancing proposal with him, Danske said.
