Medieval Boards

I'll set the scene. It's medieval times and what we now know as boards is a physical forum where people nail messages up instead of posting online because there is no internet in medieval times.

You have to write your username on with a pen (quill as it was known at the time). So you dip it in the ink and write your post as well as your username, you might even sign it an extra time as part of the message which was the style at the time. Someone you know comes along and makes eye contact (remember there was still eye contact in medieval times).

What I'm asking is would you put your thumbs over your signature/name so that the other person (in medieval-time-suitable clothing) cannot identify you as the poster of your posts? Or would you be comfortable just being honest?

Is this just a long way of asking people if they hide behind their username?

Uhm... why bother covering up your name? Strong likelihood that the other chap couldn't read, and if he could read, he was probably going to drop dead within seconds from some plague or such.
