We're thinking about using cedar wood for the decking. Anyone got strong views on the subject of what material to use for decking.
My wife wants a composite as its low maintenance and less slippy but I think I'd prefer a real wood.

Any thoughts on cedar? Any other advice or recommendations?

(Our decking area is southwest facing)

I'd be reluctant to use cedar for decking as it's very soft and will dent and splinter at the edges easily. It's also expensive. If you're keen to use a renewable timber you could use douglas fir or larch. You'll probably have to get the wood directly from a saw mill but it will work out cheaper. I'd use anything other that the green tanalised crap you get in builders providers.
