    Hi,
I have an old Dell that I'm giving to mf girlfriend.
It's Win XP and needs to be copmpletely wiped.
I have a spare Windows 7 disc so I was gonna install that.
Can someone explain how I reformat the HDD and Install Windows 7?
I had a look online but there seems to be an overkill of info.
I've made sure to back anything I want/need up.
Maybe just some decent hpyerlinks would help?

Just install it, selecting a custom install. The disk should be formatted automatically.

Would be prudent to check first if the pc can handle it SPEC wise first & if drivers are available for its motherboard, sound, graphics etc before you wipe xp

Good point. Unless it's massively old, you should be fine, but go download Speccy and post up your specs anyway.

Or you could download the windows advisor tool from Microsoft. That will inform you if your PC has the right specs to run Win7.

Make sure your windows 7 license hasn't already been used too.

And ensure you have enough RAM, Minimum of 1Gb, but you'd need 2Gb for it to be workable really.

Cheers guys, think I got it all sorted now. But after getting used to an SSD in my PC, having Windows on a HDD in hers is like using dial up compared to broadband :)
