Anglo Tapes

Why do I think the Anglo tapes are a set up? Well think about it for a moment. Now that these tapes are out in the Public Domain, the individuals involved will now never see the inside of a courtroom. Why? Because they can claim that they won't get a fair trial because evidence is tainted. So what was the real purpose of releasing the tapes if it won't affect those on them?

    Well here's my theory.

The tapes have achieved one major goal and that was to get people so incensed and angry that they would demand something be done about these bankers however since we know that they won't be getting a fair trial, the only option the Government wish to give to the people is an enquiry. Of course this enquiry won't have the powers necessary to go after the bankers (who won't see the inside of a court remember) so they need more power to do so.

This is where the Oireachtas Enquiry Referendum comes into play. It was ran in 2011 in order to grant more powers to the Government and was run along side the referendum to go after judge's pay but the people said no. Now it's being used to go after bankers and since the public are angry and looking for justice, they most likely will pass this referendum this time around. Now of course why not kill two birds with one stone? Why not coincide this referendum with the abolishment of the Seanad too? In other-words, strengthen one house with huge powers while removing the oversight of another in one fell swoop.

The public think that the Seanad is a waste anyway so why not get rid of it? Well you see, as long as the Seanad exists, the issues that we all have with it can be fixed through reform however once it's gone, it's gone. It's like cutting off your arm because you have an annoying itch. So what better than to have the public angry just enough for them to knee-jerk and pass these two referenda without thinking. Now we find out that there won't be any more tapes released to the public, this doesn't protect the ongoing case because the damage has already been done. So let the public hear just enough to get them angry and shut off supply and the deed is done. Now watch as they push for both Referenda to be passed soon. Remember that once passed, the Oireachtas gains a major power boost which the effects of haven't been debated at all, while the counter balance and oversight is removed by the abolition of the Seanad.

If you still think this is some conspiracy theory then you haven't been paying attention over the last 5 years....

Their not smart enough to even come up with that level of planning. And it's too obvious to everyone as a plan anyway. This is something else. Probably another of those unforeseen circumstances. 'unknown known' if you like.

So where do the Templars come into this? It's not a conspiracy theory till it mentions the Templars.

Just incase you needed to be reminded,

A conspiracy theory is an explanatory proposition that accuses a person, group or organization of having caused or covered up an event or phenomenon of great social, political, or economic impact. Nefes underlines the political nature of conspiracy theories and suggests that one of the most important characteristics of these accounts is their attempt to unveil the 'real but hidden' power relations in social groups.
This is an extract from wikipedia, just so you can get the jist of what a conspiracy theory is.

"Their not smart enough to even come up with that level of planning. And it's too obvious to everyone as a plan anyway."

Your sayings its too obvious whilst they aren't capable of thinking of such an obvious plan?
I sir, am not following your line of thinking.

Also, this thread has nothing to do with Templars, and I would like to keep the thread about the said subject in original post.
    Cheers!

Even when a real conspiracy is found it must be conspiracy!

If the government wanted to pull something like this off they would not release tapes to the famously apathetic Irish public and rely on countless variables going their way. If they are as evil and all knowing as you suggest they would probably just rig the referendums.

The Seanad never counter balances anything! It's not a pure and noble institution defending freedom but a bizarre sort of retirement home.

David Norris checked himself out of hospital in order to deliver a passionate speech about the abolition of the Seanad, and delivered a scathing attack on Enda Kenny and co.

They were never going to court anyway

    Doing a Harney, it's called.

Reckless way to do it, point a loaded gun at yourself and hope someone takes it away.?

Yes theirs a power grab going on but they disabled that themselves and the release of these tapes don't enhance the Gov position one iota.
If you still think this is some conspiracy theory then you haven't been paying attention over the last 5 years....

Couple of flaws in this theory, first it's obvious that the Gov were side swiped by the tapes, so they didn't come from them. Second it's too obvious a ploy, people would see through it and third it presupposes that the current Gov will have all the power, elections do change Governments, boots go on the other foot.

Far more plausible is my 'Templars' theory, this leak came from someone who is not visible as a player or more explicitly seldom feel forced to be a player.
Anglo tapes leaked by the guards to force some sort of exposure because they are frustrated by Gov inaction. First leak about something trivial to the Justice minister then another little leak to him..Them bang! the most important story is leaked, not to the justice minister but to the public. This brings into question the competence of both the current Gov and the last one.
Or it could be a clusterfu*k of the highest order.

Oh btw yeah I do know what a conspiracy theory is, I just have a sense of humor as well!

Long time reader of this forum, first time post.

This looks to be a leak of the highest order! I wouldn't expect it have just accidentally appeared on a journalist's desk. Looking at the current situation, there are a lot of big players and small players in both parties. Guys with more ambitions than the others, a clean out occurs, and some of the smaller players are left to become bigger players. So I would not discredit a party leak as such. The next election is going to be a major cull for both parties, with some squeaky new faces to appear.

The theory about the Gardaí leak sounds extremely plausible! I would be more inclined to think along those lines also.

The biggest question in my head is why were they leaked now, and not before? I'm assuming that these recordings were recovered quite some time back, so why now?

Definitely has me wondering who's trying what anyways!

Then theirs Quinn, who might have come across these tapes in the disclosure for his court case. This could be anyone, the guards have had these tapes for 4 years, that's a long time to hold something, how many people have had access, checking their still there, and checking whats on them?

Scary thing is not some conspiracy but that their isn't any plan whatsoever.

The tapes are 4 years old why are we only hearing about it now??? because shanered is right it is all to shut us down and keep us in line making money for the big guys. but even as bad as these are the likes of the IMF are the worst. we are now i believe selling coillte to pay for our loans.... if you just look on netflix there is lads doing documentaries saying that its what they do... go into a country and give them loans they CANT pay back and then they start selling there resources ie forests and parks and our water supply.... people need to wake up and see that it is the american government that have alot of blame for the world crisis not just the irish one.

But dont get me wrong and just to stay on topic i think the reason these tapes "leaked" out at all is because someone somewhere missed a payment...

I wonder how much the Independent paid to get the copies of the tapes? Why is it no one asks why they got copies (because it would be the best outlet)

Would it be reasonable to assume that this scandal extends beyond the banking industry?

It must reach the highest levels of the political and legal system and probably beyond.

Would it be a surprise if top politicians and legal officers are implicated?

Not a bit of a surprise. I doubt that this was leaked by anyone in the political side of things. However it seems a lot of people had access to these tapes and you know what they say about keeping a secret!
Another theory is that the investigation is being dragged out to prevent civil actions by defrauded shareholders in Anglo and other banks. Run it till the statute of limitations clicks in. Which throws up another layer of candidates for leaking.

I don't think we will ever find out who or why these tapes became public domain anymore than we will ever find out exactly what, who or why the gov were so remiss in giving the bank guarantee.

But if shareholders have grounds to sue, why wouldn't they issue proceedings before the statute of limitations expire.

I think the whole thing has stalled because this whole scandal extends way beyond the Irish banking sector. There are far too many high level public figures involved and even scratching the surface will highlight this. Imagine the damage a proper investigation would do.
