Go into a social welfare office on Monday, and get the process rolling.

You mention being "7 Years in Ireland"; are you an EU citizen? If not, maybe you should check this out.

Have you gone to the social welfare office yet? Your claim won't be back dated to the day you left work, only to the day you went in to the office and applied for benefits.
