Dublin Traffic Query

    Hi All,

So due to changes in my job, I am faced with the prospect of having drive home from work at ~6pm (Mon-Fri) from the job in the Docklands. I've never had to drive around Dublin during peak times before. So for those who do so regularly, how bad is the traffic around this time? I'll be heading down Pearse St. on to the south Quays out to the N4. A general guesstimate of how long it would take to get passed the Palmerston lights would be good. Thanks.

Them lights on the N4 there at palmerston are a nightmare especially on Fridays, From the docklands to just get to that point I would put it down to 3/4 of an hour,Is there no way you can use bus eireann/Dublin bus to your destination/docklands and maybe park your car where you get on in the mornings ?

That's why I am looking to see what things are like around that time. so I can figure out which will be better for me, driving or some form of commuting.

Problem really is that traffic can be so changeable. An accident, a gig or some other event and suddenly it takes an hour just to get halfway down the south quays.
I would avoid driving if at all possible. Dublin bikes are a good option for moving in that area - grab one at Heuston and it's a 15 minute cycle to the docklands. Availability of the bikes is an issue though.
Really the question is how far is your total commute. Could you switch completely to bus or bike or are you coming from outside Dublin?

Train from the docklands to Leixlip, Maynooth etc , Park & ride. Alternative is, don't go down the quays , but parallel , Dorset Street, Queen Street , hit Quays nearer Hueston. If N4 Heavy , go through Chapo & either come back on at Ballyfermot slip or use Strawberry Beds.

Yeah, the commute would be about 1hr - 1hr 20 mins ish. So I might just have to go with that.

Leave the car at the Luas Red cow park and ride. €2 for all day parking, Luas takes feck all to get to city centre. Traffic isn't too bad that way, I travel it week days. You will have missed most of the heave traffic by then.

Thanks, it's looking likely that I'll only have to do the trip on the odd occasion maybe a few days a month. So I'll prob go down the train route. I'm about 20 mins from Celbridge and Maynooth, so should do the job. Was just trying to figure out which one would be quicker when you factor in waiting for the train departure, etc.

Hello there. Just looking for some information on traffic levels around 2pm travelling from griffith avenue near st. vincents gaa ground to Bray. AA route planner says it would take approx 30 mins but I am just looking to hear from anyone who might have experience travelling this route or part of it.

Sounds pretty optimistic, would this journey be on a weekday?

Ya it would be a week day. Monday to Friday. It is a friend of mine is after getting a job in bray and his hours are 3pm to 11pm. He is moving up from down the country. He is looking into the option of moving into the house im living in, near griffith avenue. I presume the journey home will be fairly straight forward due to traffic being quiet at 11pm. Its the journey over is were the problem could be.. thanks for yer replies.
