    I haven't seen 4K TV's, maybe a couple of hundred, but don't think I've seen 4,000 TV's in my life yet.

4k is a waste of money when there's no other technology to support it (except PC Gaming)

The recession is over. Don't confuse not being back on top of a toxic housing bubble with returning to an economic period of stability.

The CSO would beg to differ with you on that note

Harvey Norman over here in Aus are advertising an 84" tv for $18,888. Who in their right mind pays that for a telly?

Must get a telly one of these days....

I hear they come with those yokes now where you don't he to get out of your chair to turn the dial over to the other station?

8 grand on a box?!? FFS! Take a walk or read a book.

Ridiculous. I wouldn't even look up the tech til its affordable why do that to yourself. Because then suddenly this, HD 46" smart tv feels redundant and it really shouldn't already

Tis the future, to me kids today just don't realize how good they have it and appreciate the finer details if you will.

/latter part of rant more suited to gaming in fairness.

Most of the reviews I've read say the upscaling justifies it, esp. for blu-ray.

a 4k tv 8k sounds like a ripoff - just buy a 4k one for 4k like the rest of us

I only have 20/20 vision (with my contacts in)

Marketing folk don't want you to know this - but you can only see so much information in a given space. Unless you've got a 60" TV and you're sitting 2 feet away from it; you probably could not tell the difference.

    (See Chart for Evidence)
    http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2006/12/resolution_chart.jpg

At 5 feet from the TV - you'd need a TV that was 70" before you'd be able to see a difference between 1080p and 4k TV.

When I got my first Blu-Ray player (PS3) I put in a Blu-Ray and in my DVD player I stuck in the same movie, in DVD format. Then I'd fiddle with the cables going to my TV and tried to get my wife to tell me which one was which - from the back of the room. And then I'd have her step closer and say, 'Okay - now which is better?'

The results were pretty 'meh'. Maybe our 42" TV was just too small, but we had to move our couch closer to the TV to see any difference. Sitting directly in front of the TV - yes - Blu Ray looked better.

$18,888 AUS dollars is only worth like €4000 or a herd of sheep.
