Okay so I decided to have myself a nice little retro pc for playing older Pc games on.It originally came with Windows Millenium Edition (I know horrific right) installed,Its an old Pc from my youth that my mother was about to junk.I decided to save it and use for some retro fun.

My mother had a guy install Windows XP Pro on it at some point.I decided to do a fresh Windows XP install to clear the clutter, and make way for my old game collection.

    BUT!!

After reformatting and commencing reinstall It continually gets a BSOD error.Ive tried multiple times in vain to do this. How the technician managed to install xp on it way back is beyond me =/

So I searched and tried in vain to find a Bios update(there are so many).

    Pc serial number is 0001814558
    Current Bios is 0AAVWP02

What to do??I really dont know.Ive spent hours searching google but to no avail.Im really needing a solution/tutorial right now

    What to do ?

Read the charter , esp. the bit about software you own

    Install ME :(

or get a transferrable XP license. - and it would be cheaper to buy a second hand XP machine that already has a license.

or check if the games can play in WINE and install an older version of linux - but TBH that's really only an option if you have >512MB RAM which is unlikely

at that age make sure the HDD isn't on the way out

Its ran xp fine in the past has 512 mbs of ram.Bios is extremely limited on options.

Linux is your best bet, with support for XP ending in less than a years time, I wouldn't waste money on buying a license for it (if you find a legitimate one, as Microsoft stopped selling XP 2 years ago).
Try out Linux Mint or Lubuntu would be my advice, Wine should run most stuff no problems

Hi yeah I have my main pc running Windows 7 ultimate 64bit ( dont like win8).I wanted to have an old rig to play classic games and such on.Ive tried ghosting hard drives but to no avail. It seems Gateway Oem Boards just dont like it.Ive tried Windows 2000 pro Xp pro but both just bsod.Im guessing board is designed to only work with 9.x kernel

Now my new dilemma arrives.I can install 98 but the DRIVERS!!! where lol where can I find them Ive searched hard and thoroughly,to no avail.Even Gateways support page is of no real help. Those that I have found simply wont work.Any help is appreciated

What is the error code XP shows on the BSOD, i.e: 0xXXXXXXXXX (XXXXXXX is a series of numbers)

    Ghosting won't work.

    Do not pass GO
    do not collect $200.

You'd have to do a repair install with the correct chipset/HDD controlller / video drivers and even then YMMV, or sysprep and seal it

And there is still the whole licensing problem.

at that age though the hardware could be on the way out, run diagnostics overnight - memtest is also good, use a SMART aware utility to make sure the drive is OK

Download the chipset driver for your MS-6330 motherboard here. It includes the VIA controller driver

Instructions to pre-load the driver during setup:
Under Windows 2000 and later OS, while user intends to install OS on the disk attached on the RAID controller, they have to prepare a floppy driver disk including the pre-OS installation files and press “F6” while boot CD is starting.

The driver disk files had been prepared in this package. Please follow the steps to prepare it.

    1. Make sure the target system is already install floppy drive

    2. Prepare a empty and valid floppy disk

    3. Copy all files under \DRVDISK to the floppy

    4. Power on the target machine and boot from the Boot CD. And press “F6” while the prompt appear on the button line

    5. After the booting process ask you to insert the floppy disk, please insert the prepared floppy disk to the floppy drive and press enter

    6. Choose the proper item to fit the OS and RAID controller you are installing. Each item shows the matched OS for it.

That should take care of the BSOD.

Soundblaster Live! Value XP driver here.

Nvidia Riva TNT2 XP driver here.

Thanks for the Help, after much effort and testing Ive come to the conclusion that is a bad mobo.I scrapped it and was donated a Pentium 4 machine in which was luckily compatible with core 2 duo.I put in an old Geforce 3 card and an old C2D cpu I had lying around and am currently messing around with Linux Mint :)
