Hi folks, I have an issue with my gas boiler not firing at all for the past couple of days. I have a Myson MEP2c timer controlling it, and I've noticed that the orange backlight is not working on the unit anymore. I guess there's a couple of relays in this unit and I'm wondering are they shot? It seems to be getting voltage at the back alright, as when I take the timer unit off the panel, I can read 220V off the contacts.

I'm thinking it might be worth trying a replacement timer (around €45) before calling someone out to look at it, because I think it's the timer rather than anything with the boiler. Would this be worth trying?

    Thanks all.

Are you getting 230V from terminals 3 or 4, i.e. either of the switched live outputs?

Here's what I get when I put my voltage tester between the different terminals:

    Between Neutral and 3 = 0V
    Between Neutral and 4 = 19V
    Between Live and 3 = 239V
    Between Live and 4 = 216V
Between Live and Neutral = 239V

This is with the timer off the panel and just checking between the different points on the panel where the wires come in.

Ok. Sorry I meant with timer switched on for 3 & 4. Test between neutral & 3 or 4. You won't be able to with cover on as you will need to check on cable.

However, if timer was playing up, it is likely to be at fault.

Yeah I can't get at the terminals to test with the timer in place, unless I take the whole panel off. I seem to remember the timer clicking - like a relay click - when switching on the heating or water, and I'm not getting that. I'd be fairly certain the timer is shot, esp. given the back-lighting is also not working.

Might risk buying a replacement unit and putting it on.

    Thanks for the help anyway.

It's a mains 230V time clock only so no relay.

PM your fellow Mod DGOBS. He is in your area & should have that clock. I will replace it with him when I see him shortly. I have lots of that exact clock so you can have it FOC.
